Formatting
The Background Colour tab applies a background colour to the displayed result based on the same conditional rules used in Display Value Formatting.
Each rule contains:
- Grade – The Grade or Year Level the rule applies to.
- Result Value – The numeric value to compare against.
- Colour – The background colour applied when the condition is met.
For example:
| Grade | Result Value | Colour |
|---|---|---|
| = 4 | <= 379 | Red |
| = 4 | <= 398 | Yellow |
| = 4 | <= 430 | Green |
| = 4 | >= 431 | Blue |
As with Display Value Formatting, the conditions are evaluated in order. When defining multiple ranges, the final condition should capture all remaining values (for example, >= 431).
The Grade comparison also supports comparison operators, allowing a single rule to apply to multiple year levels. For example:
- = 4 – Applies only to Grade 4.
- < 5 – Applies to Grades below 5.
- >= 7 – Applies to Grade 7 and above.
The Display Value Formatting tab allows you to replace a numeric result with a descriptive text value.
By default, Formatting is set to Unchanged, which displays the original assessment result.
To display text instead of the numeric result:
- Change Formatting to Results.
- Open the Display Value Formatting tab.
- Create a condition for each result range.
- Enter the text you want displayed in the Display Value column.
For example:
| Grade | Result Value | Display Value |
|---|---|---|
| = 4 | <= 379 | Below |
| = 4 | <= 398 | Somewhat Below |
| = 4 | <= 430 | At |
| = 4 | >= 431 | Above Expected Range |
When the student's result falls within one of these ranges, the text entered in Display Value is shown instead of the numeric score.
The conditions are evaluated from top to bottom, so ensure the final condition captures any remaining values.
Reusing Formatting Rules
The Copy button can be used to duplicate an existing set of formatting rules.
This is useful when the same result ranges are required across multiple tabs. For example, you may first create the colour conditions in the Background Colour tab, then copy them to Display Value Formatting and simply replace the numeric results with descriptive text such as Below, At, and Above Expected Range.
This saves time and ensures the same value ranges are used consistently throughout the formatting definition.
