This article provides instructions for administrators on how to configure Xuno to let parents enter absences by times instead of periods when submitting an absence note.
By default, parents select specific absence periods when submitting an absence or future absence note. However, if a school prefers to let parents enter the exact start and end times—particularly when they're unfamiliar with the period schedule—they can enable the "Absence Note by Time" option in Xuno. This new feature provides greater flexibility for schools and makes it easier for parents to record partial-day absences.
How to turn on Absence Note by Time
- Go to Options > Attendance & Timetable
- Locate the setting titled ‘Parent Absence Note Period/Time Selection Option’
- Choose the ‘Start/End Time’ option.
- Click on the Save button at the bottom of the page.
- Once this setting is enabled, parents using the XUNO Family App or website will be given the option to choose the start and end times when submitting absence notes.
- On submission, the system will work out the corresponding class periods based on the time range entered.
For example, if a parent submits an absence note from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, the system will automatically apply the absence to the periods that fall within that time—such as Period 1 and 2.
Notes:
If the 'Periods' option is selected, the Parent Absence Note process will follow the current setup, allowing parents to select specific periods for the absence instead of entering start and end times. What parents will see when submitting absence note via the parent portal
When a parent submits a future absence note through the parent portal by navigating to Attendance > Send Future Absence Notes, the absence note dialog will display based on the Absence Note settings configured by the school.
