How to setup a Kiosk

Kiosk Specifications

The specifications below are required in order to setup a Kiosk license. Please note that while other specifications and hardware may work, they are not supported by the Xuno help desk.

  • iPad with iOS 9 and above
  • Apple account to download and install the Xuno Kiosk
  • Printer: Star TSP 650ii Bluetooth Printer (optional but required if you wish to print passes)
  • Kiosk stand: Any stand which will fit the iPad and printer to suit your school (optional)

Configure all Kiosks

  1. Ensure your Xuno website is running the latest version
  2. Go to your Xuno website
  3. Go to Options > Kiosk Settings
  4. Update the settings as required. For explanation about see our related article: Things you need to know about how your Kiosk operates.
  5. Click Save

Enabling a Kiosk License and Installing the App

  1. Go to your Xuno website on any machine (it doesn't not have to be the kiosk iPad)
  2. Go to Options > Kiosk
  3. Register the Kiosk
    1. If the Kiosk is already registered
      1. Click on Deregister
    2. To add a new Kiosk
      1. Click in the cell New kiosk name...
      2. Type in the name for the new kiosk
      3. Ensure you have correct options selected for Allow Students, Allow Staff and Allow Visitors. A tick means that they are able to sign in and out.
      4. Click Add New
  4. Take note of the serial number as this will be used to to activate the Kiosk app
  5. Sign into the iPad you are using as the Kiosk with your Apple account
  6. Go to the App Store and find the Xuno Kiosk app
  7. Install the app
  8. Open the Kiosk app
  9. Enter the Kiosk Serial Number from step 4
  10. Click Save.

Setup Printer and stand and Connect to the network

  1. Connect the kiosk to your wireless network
  2. Add your proxy authentication details to the iPad Wi-Fi connection. Your kiosk requires an active internet connection to receive it's settings and auto-update information
  3. Ensure the iPad is connected to a power supply or remember that is should be charged each night to avoid running out of power during school hours.
  4. If using a stand follow the instructions given by the provider of the stand.
  5. Follow the steps below to connect the printer to the iPad.

Connecting Your Star TSP 650 Receipt Printer to Your iPad

Follow these steps to connect your Star TSP 650 receipt printer to your iPad.

  1. Place the paper roll into the receipt printer by following the instructions provided.
  2. Plug the receipt printer power adapter into a live power point and into the back of the printer.
  3. Click on the iPad home button to show your application icons.
  4. Click on the Settings icon.
  5. Click on the Bluetooth item.
  6. If a <kiosk serial no> item is listed in the Devices list – click on its corresponding “i” icon (i with a circle), then click on Forget this Device. Your printer serial number device may have additional text before or after its name.
  7. On the back of your Star TSP 650 receipt printer, near the power cord, find and hold the PAIR button for 5-8 seconds. The small light will start flashing. You will have 60 seconds to pair your printer to your iPad.
  8. In your iPad bluetooth settings your printer device will appear with the name “<kiosk serial number>” (e.g. 5D52H289). Click on the item to connect your printer to your iPad. Once connected, your Star Micronics printer will show “Connected”.
  9. Click on the iPad home button.
  10. Click on the XUNO Kiosk icon to open the Kiosk app.
